Dr. Jessica Jarvis receives Foundation of PM&R funding

Dr. Jessica Jarvis, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, has received funding as a Principal Investigator on an award from the Foundation for PM&R. The proposal entitled, “Equity in rehabilitation therapy use during pediatric critical care among children with traumatic brain injury,” will be a collaborative effort between several departments.

In the United States, minoritized children are more likely to experience poorer health outcomes than children who are White. There are multiple factors that play a role in these disparities, including unfair allocation of health care resources. This project will assess for racial and ethnic equity in rehabilitation therapy use during pediatric critical care among children with traumatic brain injuries in the 50+ children’s hospitals participating in the Pediatric Health Information System.

Dr. Jarvis will be joined on the project by co-investigators Dr. Ericka L. Fink (Dept. of Critical Care Medicine) and Dr. Amy Houtrow (Dept. of PM&R).

The Gabriella Molnar Pediatric PM&R Grant will be presented to Dr. Jarvis during November’s AAPM&R Annual Assembly in Nashville, TN.
