Our BIM fellowship provides instruction from highly experienced and trained professionals across a broad spectrum of specialties to ensure optimal exposure for the fellow. Applicants will be board certified/eligible in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
 
Fellowship training is centered at UPMC Mercy, a level 1 trauma center and home to the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute. Fellows also rotate at UPMC Presbyterian, also a level 1 trauma center. The majority of training will be conducted at the Brain Injury Unit at UPMC Rehabilitation Institute at Mercy where we provide the highest level of comprehensive and multidisciplinary rehabilitation care that includes emergency medical, acute medical, and post-acute services. The fellow will gain BIM patient management experience in both the acute care phase at UPMC Presbyterian and rehabilitation phase at our 18-bed brain injury unit at the Rehab Institute, participate in acute care consultations, and serve on inpatient rehab teams. Special learning opportunities are available in:
  • Assistive technology
  • Neuropharmacology
  • Neuroradiology
  • Evaluation and management of concussion patients
  • Management of persons with disorders of consciousness
Participation in the sports concussion program at the UPMC Center for Sports Medicine provides exposure to patients of all athletic levels and ages. This is one of the leading sports concussion programs in the country and draws professional athletes to the facility and the expert physicians there.
