Michael Grapner is the Program Coordinator for Adaptive Sports and Recreation in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC. A Certified Adaptive Recreation and Sport Specialist, Michael earned his bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and Health from Miami University and a master's degree in Sport Science and Recreation from Ohio University.
Before moving to Pittsburgh, Michael served as the Head Diving Coach for West Virginia University’s Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams from 2010 to 2020. His coaching experience, combined with a background in sales, helped him develop strong leadership skills that continue to influence his work in adaptive sports. Michael's love for sports and recreation is a direct parallel to his passion for people and helping others.
In his current role, Michael works closely with local community organizations and advocacy groups to create accessible pathways for sports, recreation, and community engagement. He is passionate about promoting inclusive healthy living activities that improve the overall quality of life for individuals with disabilities. Through his work, Michael continues to build relationships that foster empowerment, independence, and inclusion in adaptive sports and recreation.
