Dr. Fisher is a researcher at the Rehab Neural Engineering Laboratory (RNEL). Dr. Fisher’s research interests involve the development of neuroprostheses to restore sensory and motor function after neural damage or disease, as well as exploration of the role of somatosensation in maintaining balance control during standing and walking.
Why are diversity and inclusion important to me? My goal as a researcher is to develop new technologies and therapies to treat injury and disease. Without inclusive, and equitable representation of people from diverse backgrounds, the technologies we develop won't be relevant for many of the people living with these injuries and diseases. I am a member of the UPMC PM&R Diversity and Inclusion Committee because I believe we must improve the inclusion of people from under-represented backgrounds in biomedical research and engineering.
