Why did you choose the UPMC residency program?

When I was making my rank list, I was guided by these interests: support of trainees by faculty and staff  pertaining to both career and personal life, service/involvement in community, leadership and mentorship potential. One of the reasons UPMC stood out to me was the increasing number of women in leadership positions in the UPMC system, especially in the PMR department. I am interested in leadership, so it was important to me to go to a program that would nurture and provide avenues for leadership. Also, during the diversity brunch, I saw actionable steps that were taken towards diversity, equity, and inclusion. I could see the different ways in which I, as a resident, could be serving my community, especially the underseved. During the entire interview season, the residents were very welcoming. From conversations I had with residents and faculty, I could tell that I would be right at home. In addition, it was easy to rank UPMC as my top choice because of the program's academic excellence. I knew that I would be thoroughly prepared for any field in PM&R. All in all, I had no doubt that I would thrive at UPMC.
