Faculty Update - March 2024

A $5 million donation went to Dr. Dan Ding to establish the Smart Tech for Paralysis (ST4P) Implementation Hub that will form a partnership between RST/ PM&R/UPMC and will be starting to ramp up activities on the SCI inpatient unit and the Center for Assistive Technology. 
PM&R faculty, staff, and resident involvement includes:

Marco Capogrosso, Elvira Pirondini and Lee Fisher

  • Stroke study “Epidural Stimulation of the Cervical Spinal Cord for Post-Stroke Upper-Limb Paresis” was selected among the Top 20 medical achievements of the country in 2023 by the Clinical Research Forum organization. 

Rob Gaunt and Jen Collinger 

  • Interviewed by NBC News about an implant completed by Elon Musk’s company Neuralink implanted a person a week or so ago. 

Sarah Laughlin 

  • Nominated and accepted as member of the National PKU Alliance (NPKUA) Research Registry Committee

Tad Gorske and Melissa Sutcliffe 

  • Served on a panel for an event sponsored by The Greater Pittsburgh Psychological Association on March 9th at Carlow University.
