Target Audience
Nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, case managers, physiatrists/physicians, fellows, and residents involved with the acute care and rehabilitation of persons with spinal cord injury are encouraged to attend.
Learning Objectives
- Be able to identify, assess and implement intervention/refer to appropriate services for issues related bowel, bladder, and sexual health post spinal cord injury.
- Utilize local and national resources for funding, equipment, etc. for patients and caregivers as well as updated clinician guidelines.
- Recognize the differences in care patients will require at various age ranges when they acquire an SCI, as well as how patients age with a spinal cord injury.
- Identify and demonstrate basic wheelchair skills needed to increase community access and independence.
- Practice transfer training techniques unique to SCI patients.
- Experiment with setup and design strategies to maximize the ability to functionally use a wheelchair in the home.
