Why did you choose UPMC residency program?

I was originally drawn to the specialty of PM&R early in medical school because I loved the opportunity to apply my interest in anatomy and neuroanatomy with the main goal of improving others’ ability to do what they most love in life: from playing with their grandkids to competing at the highest levels.  Throughout my interactions with UPMC, I have continually been impressed with not only the PM&R department but also the entire UPMC system. Under the guidance of Dr. Sowa and Helkowski, this program continues to attract top attendings in the field for residents to train alongside in addition to incredible resources from training with portable ultrasounds to access to the #1 funded PM&R research department in the country. My co-residents, attendings, and department leadership at UPMC motivate me to be my best every day and I know this program will provide me the opportunities to be the best physiatrist I can be at the end of my training.
