Why did you choose the UPMC residency program?
I did not know about PM&R heading into medical school. As my clinical years progressed, I found myself more and more interested in musculoskeletal and neurological pathologies. Plus, I really enjoyed learning more about minimally-invasive techniques and ultrasound-guided procedures that significantly improved patient quality of life, be it helping an athlete getting back on the field sooner or allowing grandparents to spend more time playing with their grandchildren. Fortunately, a resident on my neurology rotation told me about PM&R. As I looked more into the field and did an away rotation, I was thrilled to find that PM&R combines my clinical interests with the opportunity to partner with patients to help them lead their most fulfilling lives. On the interview trail, I found the residents and faculty at UPMC to be the happiest and most welcoming bunch of people I’ve met in medicine. I also loved how well-rounded the program is and how training can be tailored to match each resident’s professional goals.
