Outpatient Experiences

Fellows will gain valuable hands-on experience at our exceptional outpatient facilities including:

PRM Procedures Clinic - Botox/EMG/nerve block trigger points, prolotherapy

Fellows' Clinic - Our fellows have a weekly dedicated clinic to follow patients throughout their fellowship. The fellows' clinic has alternating attendings for exposure to different practice styles.
 

Cerebral Palsy-Related Disorders Clinic - This weekly multi-disciplinary clinic serves several hundred infants, children, and youth with cerebral palsy and other similar conditions. A special focus on transition helps patients transition seamlessly to adult care in our Department clinics. Services include PRM; orthopaedics; physical, occupational, and speech-language therapy; social work; orthotists; DME specialists; and nursing care coordination.

Linkage Clinics - The Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine serves two multi-disciplinary outreach clinics staffed by public health nurses, and physical, occupational, and speech-language therapists. These clinics help address a clinical need for care in more rural communities.

Spina Bifida Clinic - This weekly multi-disciplinary clinic provides comprehensive care for several hundred infants, children, and youth with spina bifida and other spinal cord disorders. This clinic partners directly with the adult spina bifida clinic to assure a smooth transition to adulthood, and many of these children are part of the spina bifida registry project funded by the CDC. The multi-disciplinary providers include PRM, urology, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, physical and occupational therapy, social work, orthotists, DME specialists, and nursing care coordination.

Acquired Brain Injury Clinic - A part of the Brain Care Institute, this multi-disciplinary clinic serves children and youth with a history of acquired moderate to severe brain injury. The team develops comprehensive treatment plans for children after brain injury that include specialists in physical, occupational, and speech-language therapy; behavioral health; neuropsychology; social work; and nursing care coordination.

Muscular Dystrophy Clinic - The Muscular Dystrophy Association clinic is held weekly under the direction of CHP's neuromuscular neurologist, Dr. Hoda Abdel-Hamid. The multi-disciplinary team includes PRM, neurology, physical and occupational therapy, and care coordination.

Spasticity/Movement Disorders Clinic - A part of the Brain Care Institute, the clinic is run by Pediatric Neurosurgery and focuses on providing comprehensive assessments and management plans for spasticity. Many children who receive evaluations in this clinic also attend our CP clinic or our general rehabilitation clinics. The multi-disciplinary team includes specialists in physical therapy, neurosurgery, PRM, and orthopaedic surgery.

Durable Medical Equipment Clinic - The PRM physicians participate in a multi-disciplinary clinic with physical and occupational therapy and local DME vendors to evaluate and identify the optimal complex medical equipment to best meet the child's functional needs.

Feeding and Swallowing Clinic - This weekly multi-disciplinary clinic provides comprehensive assessment, treatment, follow-up care, and ongoing support for infants and children experiencing feeding difficulties. The child's care team includes PRM, occupational and speech therapy, nutrition, behavioral health, and gastroenterology.

Brachial Plexus Clinic - This multi-disciplinary clinic is run by plastic surgery and evaluates, treats, and monitors children with peripheral nerve injury from birth brachial plexus and other traumatic causes.

Chronic Pain Clinic - The pediatric chronic pain clinic is run out of the Division of Pediatric Anesthesia in collaboration with our Division. Children and youth with a variety of underlying medical conditions that may result in chronic pain are seen in this multidisciplinary clinic with physical therapy, psychology, and advanced practice providers. Based on their initial evaluations from the multidisciplinary team members, a treatment plan is created and follow up is conducted with either the pain anesthesia or the PRM attending (depending on the nature of the pain).
