PM&R Fellow Receives New Investigator Grant from the Foundation for PM&R

Dr. Nicholas Race, MD, PhD, has been awarded the Richard Materson ERF New Investigator Research Grant from the Foundation for PM&R. Dr. Race is in his last year of the PM&R residency program and has already been accepted to the UPMC Brain Injury Medicine fellowship program under Dr. Amy Wagner.

Dr. Race's proposal is entitled, "Social relationship status and serotonergic dysregulation contributions to unhealthy social behavior and impaired stress management after TBI." Alongside PM&R faculty member and Co-Investigator, Dr. Corina Bondi, Dr. Race's proposed work will investigate the dysfunctional social behavior and stress management impairments in a preclinical model. This results of this work would improve the ability to manage stress and emotional regulation in the clinical setting, promoting healthy social behavior—overall improving quality of life for individuals who have experienced traumatic brain injury.
