Faculty Update - December 2023

Dr. Corina Bondi is awaiting a Notice of Award for an R21 from the NIH to investigate interactions between traumatic brain injury recovery and hypertension, a common comorbidity afflicting nearly half of the adult population. Co-investigators on the grant are Anthony Kline, PhD, and Mioara Manole, MD, Pediatrics.

Dr. Elvira Pirondini is awarded an NIH R01 titled, “Deep brain stimulation of the motor thalamus to improve cortico-spinal control of muscles after stroke," an MPI (multiple principal investigator) award.

Dr. Amy Houtrow is the #1 research expert in disabled children based on published research. She recently published a blog post on American Academy of Pediatrics titled: “A Step in the Right Direction to End Disability Discrimination in Health Care.” Dr. Houtrow has been approved to participate as a co-chair of workshop planning committee for the NASEM workshop on Health Disparities in the Medical Record and Disability Determinations.

Dr. Angie Garcia is interviewed for an article related to pediatric chronic pain management from MDedge and Pediatric News.

Dr. Kerry DeLuca serves on a panel for AAPM&R webinar, “Challenging Medicare Advantage Denials of PM&R Physician Services.”

Drs. Christopher Standaert and Gwen Sowa co-author a WSJ article titled, “New Approaches Show Promise in Helping People With Low-Back Pain.”
