The Brain Injury Fellowship is one of only three ACGME accredited BI fellowships in the United States (ACGME #3474134001). the one year program is available to a Board Certified/Board Eligible candidate trained in physical medicine and rehabilitation. The majority of training will be conducted at the Rehabilitation Institute-UPMC Mercy, which is the clinical site of our NIDRR funded TBI Model Center.

The fellow will also have exposure to outpatient clinics as well as rotations in:
Neurotrauma consult
Acute inpatient rehabilitation
Neuro-otology and Neuro-ophthalmology
Outpatient Concussion Clinic with Athletes

The fellow will gain BI patient management experience in both acute care phase at UPMC Presbyterian/Shadyside and rehabilitation phase at UPMC Mercy; participate in acute care consultations and serve on inpatient rehab teams. Special learning opportunities are available in:
Assistive technology
Neruoradiology and evaluation/management of concussion patients

Expertise from the various treatment centers within the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation such as the Spasticity Evaluation and Treatment Center and the Brain Injury Program is available to the fellow. Additional fellowship responsibilities will include assisting in the education of medical students and department residents.
