Binnan Ong, DO
Spinal Cord Injury Medicine Fellow

Why did you choose UPMC for advanced training?
I decided to pursue spinal cord injury because I enjoy the patient population, their medical complexity/acuity, and their generally good functional prognosis regardless of neurologic recovery. The biggest draw for the UPMC SCI fellowship are definitely the attendings and support staff. They are all incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and down-to-earth. I immediately felt like a colleague during my interview and not just a “resident/fellow”. UPMC also has a strong research division with diverse interests so I was confident I would be able to find projects that interest me. They also offer a half-day per week protected time to pursue research which shows how much they value academic inquiry.
